daily fitbattle #1080 (LVAC please fix the soap dispenser…)


I’ve been in battle for 1080 days. Here are my daily nutrition stats for Monday:

calories 1409 1425 <16>
protein 164 grams 150 grams +14 grams
carbs 138 grams 150 grams <12> grams
total fat 20 grams 25 grams <5> grams

Here are my other stats for today:

Workout MORNING…stretching, treadmill for a 10 min warmup at 4.0, stairmaster for 40 mins starting at level 10 for 20 min then slowly declined to level 6, and 45 crunches on the decline bench
EVENING…stretching, a quick warm up and Push of the Push/Pull Split with Chris
Successes Great nutrition yesterday!!!
Opportunities I’m feeling a little short of energy today. I think I need to start getting a little more sleep.

I need to rant! LVAC please fix the soap dispensers…once and for all!

This is a pet peeve that’s been driving me crazy for the last few days. I workout at the LVAC on Flamingo and the 215 and for the last 10 days (or maybe even longer) one of the two soap dispensers in the women’s (of course) upstairs bathroom has not worked. That’s five stalls, two sinks, and one soap dispenser.

Why am I so irritated by this? For starters…I’m reminded about it every day when I make a pit stop. I just don’t get how management can let this go for sooooo long. I informed one of the housekeeping staff members that it wasn’t working and she looked under the sink and had a surprised look on her face and indicated that there was soap in the container. So I showed her that it does not dispense soap – aye yigh yigh!

Yeah! No kidding! All it would take is adding a little step in the cleaning process – TEST THE SOAP DISPENSER!

The next day one of the LVAC trainers (whom in addition to their trainer duties are also responsible for checking the gym equipment, so I figured it wasn’t a big reach to mention the soap dispenser) was in the bathroom. When I told her that the soap dispenser hasn’t been working for more than a week her reply was…excuses – excuses… it’s not like replacing a battery we had to order a part.

Give me a break! You have at least 20 (I’m guessing) of these dispensers in the gym. I’m willing to bet there’s never been a day that all the dispensers have worked (which is the another reason it drives me crazy). Here’s an idea keep some spare parts on hand.

When half of the soap dispensers are not working in the downstairs restroom (locker room) there are at least 2 or 3 that are working. Everyday it’s kind of like Russian roulette…which soap dispenser should I choose? Will it work? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Here’s an even better idea…replace the fancy motion detector soap dispensers with pumps.

Okay, yes! I’ve given this way too much thought. It’s just that way back when…I was a Housekeeping Manager…so I know that it’s not that difficult to take care of these little things.

While I’m at it…I thought it might be better to go ahead and list my other pet peeves so I’m not tempted to write a blog about each of them. Here they are:

  • Keep the disinfecting spray bottles full – at all times!
  • Pick up the misc. parts that have fallen off the ab benches that are piling up behind the stretching cages
  • How about clean behind the stretching cages?
  • Fix the channels so when you plug in your ear buds and pick channel 7 you get the sound for the tv labeled #7 (or whatever)
  • Empty the garbage can out front before the garbage is falling out
  • Fix the headset/microphone in the classroom so we can hear the spin instructor for the entire class
  • There’s been a piece of gum in the bottom of one of the lockers for more than a year – do you clean them?
  • Soak the shower heads in lime-away

Don’t get me wrong…I like LVAC. It’s a great gym. The Flamingo/215 location is only two years old so the equipment is new(er), the gym is well-lit, and even as busy as it gets you can still find cardio equipment open. I can’t say the same for the machines and free weights, but that’s only a Monday/Tuesday problem. Most of the folks that work the reception desk are very friendly and several of them have taken the time to learn the names of the regulars, making it more efficient and pleasant when we are trading our stinky towels for our membership cards on the way out.

All the little details (my pet peeves) add up and they do not go unnoticed.

Yeah… No… I don’t feel better! Well maybe a little better. 😉
