daily fitbattle #1108 (not a 3rd physical therapist!)

I’ve been in battle for 1108 days. Here are my daily nutrition stats for Monday:

calories 1465 1425 + 40
protein 159 grams 150 grams + 9 grams
carbs 157 grams 150 grams + 7 grams
total fat 25 grams 25 grams 0 grams

Here are my other stats for today:

Workout MORNING…stretching, physical therapy homework, 20 crunches on the decline bench, and the stairmaster for 40 mins at level 8.
EVENING…plan is to stretch, warm up, and upper body w/ Chris
Successes Good day overall on nutrition
Opportunities Need to watch the carbs to make sure I don’t go over my goal

No kidding a 3rd guy works on me at the physiotherapy center…

I arrived for my physical therapy appointment yesterday and a new guy greets me at the door for my appointment. Last week my first appointment was with Frank. He completed an evaluation of my injury and a quick treatment which included laser therapy and poking, twisting, and prodding around the hip area. Frank instructed me to schedule 2-3 appoints per week.

The next day I arrived for my first therapy appointment. I expected that it would be with Frank, but he was nowhere to be seen. A different guy came to get me from the waiting area. He introduced himself…”hello miss my name is Graham”. Graham checked my alignment, gave me 20 minutes of a laser/heat treatment, and then he had me do some exercises. My third appointment was with Graham (still no sign of Frank) and it was similar to the 2nd appointment…laser/heat and exercises.

Yesterday I checked in at the physiotherapy center and a different guy (guy #3) arrives in the waiting area to fetch me. As we enter the therapy center he introduces himself as Bob. Hmm…I’m thinking “are you kidding me? A third guy? Ugh!” Then I spot Graham and I’m wondering why isn’t Graham working with me?

‘When one door closes, another opens. But we often look so regretfully upon the closed door that we don’t see the one which has opened for us.’ ~Alexander Graham Bell

Bob leads me to the exam (laser/heat therapy) room. I was slightly irritated by the thought of guy #3, but what was I gonna do? Then Bob adds a little bit more info to his introduction, he says his last name and it dawns on me that Bob isn’t just some random therapist #3, Bob is the “physiotherapist” numero uno. He’s the guy that my Physician’s Assistant referred me to.  Ah ha! I say “you’re the boss?” Bob and I discuss my symptoms and he reviews the notes from Frank and Gram.

Then Bob has me hop onto the table and BAM! He immediately pokes me in my right hip flexor and wowza! That hurt. He’s definitely the main man. I gotta be honest with you…the pain that Bob inflicted was well pain…not pleasant, but I think it helped! Yes I still have hip pain, but it’s not as bad. Yay! I think that Bob is going to make me better.

‘No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit.’ ~Helen Keller

I had to laugh that I was dreading guy #3 when he first appeared and he ended up being “the man”. I fully expect that Bob will be able to cure me. He immediately zoned in on my problem. And good news! Bob believes it’s possible there is a relationship between my thigh numbness and hip. Frank and Graham were both doubtful that this could be the case. Hooray for Bob!

I’ll be seeing Bob again tomorrow morning for some torture and a little more relief. I guess my lesson in all this (a lesson that I’ve learned over and over and over again) is to not jump to conclusions and/or 3rd time’s a charm.

Until tomorrow! Kathi
